Presented by Ben Chancellor (the winner of T4’s rising talent award), Play Radio News will deliver a wry look at the week’s news inspired, sourced and influenced by Play Radio’s listeners. Ben will be joined by Mancunian comic Alex Perry and Jesse Morgan – part time journalist, full time comedian.

The People’s Broadcast

Have you ever wanted to listen to an interview in full before it’s broadcast? What have they cut out? What don’t they want you to hear?
The People’s Broadcast does just that. We interview the people you want us to interview on a subject you want to know about. These interviews are then uploaded onto our facebook fan page in their entirety prior to the broadcast and we want your feedback. Have we asked the right questions? Do you agree with their view?
During the live show, the guest will be back in the studio answering the questions YOU raised. You are directing the flow of the show.

You Can Not Be Serious?!

Good at general knowledge? Then take part in our Play Radio quiz!

You Can Not Be Serious is an interactive sports quiz show presented by Ruth Barnes and Pete Donaldson. This isn’t your normal ‘who won the world cup in 1994’ type of quiz, you will be expected to identify grunts and work out which famous goal a six year old is describing! Players will listen to the questions on air & answer online, with great prizes to win for the overall winner.

Another of our shows: Need a Date?

Hosted by the fun and charming Sarah Kerr and Will Best, Date Radio gives single guys and girls a chance to find a date. If you have a spare ticket or need a plus one for a wedding you can become the featured guy or girl who gets on air. Wooers call in and try to charm their way to win the date, while the listeners vote and pass judgement online. Expect music, fun, banter – and above all, love.

What we’ll be broadcasting

So, we have 6 radio shows that we’ll be broadcasting on Play Radio. We thought I’d give you a little more detail about what you can expect from each idea.

The first idea is an interactive drama with a difference: Play for the day that… Not only do you get to choose who the characters are – but also where they are and what situation are they’re in. You’ll even get to send in code words they have to slip into conversation – and, you can be part of the drama yourself by calling into the show.

We’ll give you details of the other 7 shows shortly, but put Wed 7th July in your diary as an appointment to listen… Play Radio is coming!

The Final Ideas

The Play Radio team spent most of this afternoon locked away in an airless room going through all the ideas that we’ve come up with or that had been submitted to us by you great people. We now have our final list of the ideas that we’re going to be play testing on our Play Radio day on July 7th.

I won’t go into too much detail, but here’s a rough idea:

1. A crowd sourced, interactive discussion/documentary/chat show
2. A user sourced political/news satire show
3. A listener driven music show
4. An interactive quiz show
5. A dating show
6. An interactive drama

Over the coming weeks, in the run-up to broadcast day on July 7th, we’ll be meeting with all our collaborators and developing the ideas into their fully formed, finished format. And then you can tune in on July 7th to hear it all. (We’ll have details of how you can listen soon).

We’ve got a banner!

As you might have noticed, we now have a new and improved Play Radio banner and even a matching Twitter icon. That makes us very happy : )

Ideas are coming in

So we’re starting to get all the ideas together for our Play Radio day. Some of the ideas include a sound effect treasure hunt, write a book in a day, 30 second comedy skits, and many more.

We’re starting to shortlist the ideas now and should know which ones we’ll be broadcasting on 7th July soon.  (If you have an idea that you think might work then you can still email it through though: tom.koenig@somethinelse.com & eva.kanstrup@somethinelse.com)
